Description

This Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish combines a flaky puff pastry with a creamy filling to create a delicious breakfast treat that’s easy to make and perfect for sharing. With fresh strawberry jam and simple prep, it’s a delightful way to start your day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
  • ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
  • 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
  • 1 tbsp milk, any type works
  • 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar in a medium bowl with a mixer until smooth.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheets and lay them out on the baking sheet, ensuring the middle section remains intact for the filling.
  4. Cut 1-inch strips into both sides of the pastry, leaving them connected at the fold in the middle.
  5. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the center section of each pastry sheet.
  6. Mix the strawberry jam with zest (if using) and place it on top of the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup per pastry.
  7. Fold the top outer slits over each other into the center, creating a braid pattern with all the strips.
  8. Brush the top of the Danish with milk to coat.
  9. Sprinkle turbinado sugar on top of each pastry.
  10. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top.
  11. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before glazing.
  12. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze, adjusting for thickness as needed.
  13. Pour the glaze over the cooled Danish, let it set, slice, and serve.

Notes

Feel free to use other fruit jams like raspberry or blueberry for a different flavor.
For a richer glaze, you may add more powdered sugar to reach your preferred thickness.
