Description

Spaghetti Pie features a delectable blend of cheeses and savory ground beef in a comforting dish. It’s simple to prepare, making it perfect for quick dinners or family gatherings. This homemade pie is a delightful twist on traditional spaghetti, guaranteeing satisfaction at the dinner table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 ounces spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil or 1 tablespoon fresh
  • 1 pound lean ground beef or italian sausage
  • ½ small onion diced
  • 14.5 ounces canned diced tomatoes drained
  • 2 cups pasta sauce or marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a deep-dish pie plate.
  2. Brown the beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain the fat, then add the onion, cooking until slightly softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the diced tomatoes and pasta sauce, simmering uncovered for 10 minutes or until thickened.
  3. Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted water until al dente, then drain well.
  4. In the prepared pie plate, place the drained spaghetti and add butter, tossing to coat. Stir in eggs and parmesan cheese, pressing to form a crust.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, parsley, and basil. Spread this cheese mixture into the spaghetti crust, then top with the meat sauce.
  6. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes. Add mozzarella on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes, until cheese is browned and bubbly. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Feel free to substitute ground beef with Italian sausage for a spicier flavor.
For a vegetarian version, use mushrooms or lentils instead of meat and add extra vegetables of your choice.
Letting the pie rest before serving enhances the flavors and helps maintain its shape.
