Description

This Italian Burger is a flavor sensation with juicy beef and flavorful Italian sausage. Topped with crispy prosciutto and creamy garlic Parmesan mayo, this delightful dish is perfect for a quick dinner or a hearty meal. Enjoy the fresh toppings and the perfect blend of ingredients for a homemade delight!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 700g / 24 oz ground beef, 5% fat
  • 300g / 10 oz Italian sausages, casings removed
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 6 slices prosciutto
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced (optional)
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 tbsp basil pesto
  • 6 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 3 tbsp Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 6 Romaine lettuce leaves
  • 6 burger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, Italian sausages, a beaten egg, and salt. Divide into 6 equal portions, roll into balls, and flatten to about 1 inch thick. Ensure patties are slightly larger than buns.
  2. Make an indentation in the center of each patty. Chill patties in the fridge for 1 hour or in the freezer for 30 minutes to maintain shape on the grill.
  3. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F. Place prosciutto on a parchment-lined baking dish and bake for 6-8 minutes until crispy. Allow to cool, as they become crispier afterward.
  4. Mix mayonnaise with grated garlic and Parmesan cheese, setting aside for later use. Slice onion and tomato for toppings.
  5. Grill burgers for 5 minutes per side, avoiding pressing them to retain juices. Add cheese on top in the last minute of grilling. Toast buns on the grill just before removing burgers, watching them closely to avoid burning.
  6. Assemble burgers by spreading basil pesto on the bottom bun, layering with lettuce, burger patty, optional red onion, crispy prosciutto, and tomato. Top with garlic Parmesan mayo before completing the burger.

Notes

The prosciutto can be prepared a day in advance for added convenience.
Adjust the cooking time for burgers based on the grill’s heat level and monitor closely to prevent flare-ups.
Always check the internal temperature of the meat to ensure it’s properly cooked, reaching at least 160F/71C.
