Description

Delight in these French Onion Burgers featuring rich caramelized onions, juicy ground beef, and creamy brie. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal with exceptional flavor, this recipe is a must-try for burger lovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 1/2 lbs grass-fed 85/15 ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon dehydrated minced onions
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 brioche buns, toasted in butter
  • 8 oz double cream brie, cut into slices
  • 2 cups arugula
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions by melting butter and olive oil in a large dutch oven over medium heat. Add onions, toss to coat, cover, and cook for 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the lid, decrease heat, add thyme and some salt and pepper, and continue cooking until onions are deeply caramelized. Stir in dijon and balsamic vinegar; set aside.
  3. Transfer half of the cooled caramelized onions to a board, finely chop, and add them to a bowl with ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, dijon, dehydrated onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently, divide into 4 patties, and create an indentation in the center of each.
  4. In a small bowl, combine mayo, dijon, horseradish, and honey; season with salt and black pepper to make the burger sauce.
  5. Preheat your grill to 450°F and prepare the grates by cleaning and lightly oiling them.
  6. Grill the burgers for 3-4 minutes on each side. Allow burgers to rest; while warm, top with sliced brie.
  7. Spread burger sauce on toasted buns, place patties, add remaining caramelized onions, and top with arugula. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, let caramelized onions cook longer until they’re a deep brown.
Make patties slightly larger than buns to account for shrinkage during grilling.
Feel free to swap brie for your favorite cheese if desired.
