Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups (260g) whole wheat flour, spooned & leveled
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons (25g) packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 and 3/4 cups (420g/ml) buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle maker on medium-high heat and set your oven to 200°F (93°C). Prepare a wire rack on a baking sheet and set it aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
- In another bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, and brown sugar. Mix in the buttermilk and vanilla until well combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently, being careful not to over-mix; some small lumps are fine.
- Grease the preheated waffle maker with nonstick spray. Pour about 1/3 cup of batter into each waffle maker well and close the lid. Cook the waffles for about 4–5 minutes until crisp and golden brown. Transfer the cooked waffles to the wire rack to keep warm in the oven while you cook the remaining batter.
- Serve the waffles hot with your desired toppings.
