Description
This Easy Black Bean Dip features a delightful combination of black beans, spicy jalapeños, and fresh lime juice. It’s quick to prepare and bursting with flavor, making it an ideal snack or appetizer for gatherings or a simple weeknight treat.

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium red onion, chopped small
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and chopped
- 2 (15-ounce) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, plus more for serving
- vegan cheese, optional
- pickled red onions, optional
Instructions
- Warm the olive oil in a small pan over medium heat.
- Sauté the chopped red onion, garlic, and jalapeño peppers for about 5-8 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
- In a food processor, combine the drained and rinsed black beans, cooked onion/garlic/pepper mixture, ground cumin, salt, lime juice, and cilantro.
- Process until smooth, leaving some texture if desired.
- Transfer the dip to a serving dish and top with additional cilantro, vegan cheese, and pickled red onions if desired. Serve with tortilla chips.
Notes
You can adjust the heat by adding more or fewer jalapeños.
Adding vegan cheese gives a nice creamy addition that resembles cotija cheese.
Serve immediately with tortilla chips or refrigerate for later use.
