Description
This Crockpot Onion Dip combines the irresistible flavors of caramelized onions with creamy sour cream and cheese, making it a perfect snack for any occasion. Easy to prepare, this dip is great for parties or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large onions (or 4 medium onions)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 4 ounces cream cheese (half brick) (softened)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Slice the onions in half, discard the ends and peel, and then cut each half into thin strips.
- In the crockpot, combine all sliced onions. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and black pepper, and mix to coat the onions evenly. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or overnight on 'keep warm' until ready to proceed.
- Stir in sour cream, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, and optional hot sauce until combined. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. For a thicker dip, drain excess juices, though the juices add flavor.
- For serving as a hot dip, keep it warm in the slow cooker. For a cold dip, transfer to a container and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can add garlic or additional spices according to your taste.
This dip can be served with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks for dipping.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
