Description
This Chicken Tikka Masala is a delightful blend of tender chicken and spices simmered in a creamy sauce. Perfect for a quick yet comforting dinner, it’s packed with irresistible flavors and made in just one pot for easy cleanup!

- 1 tablespoon garam masala
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into cubes
- 1 cup plain, full-fat yogurt
- 6 cloves garlic, grated, divided
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger, divided
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 1 can (15 ounces) canned tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup coconut milk or heavy cream
- fresh cilantro, chopped, to serve
- 4 cups basmati rice, to serve
- homemade garlic naan, to serve
Instructions
- Whisk together garam masala, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix chicken, yogurt, half of the garlic, half of the ginger, and half of the spice mixture. Cover and marinate for at least 15 minutes, preferably overnight.
- Heat oil and butter in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add marinated chicken in batches, cooking until browned, about 6 minutes total. Remove from pot and set aside. Repeat for all chicken.
- Add diced onion, remaining garlic, ginger, and spices to the pot. Sauté until onion is softened, about 4 minutes. Stir in crushed tomatoes, scraping the bottom of the pot.
- Pour in coconut milk and add browned chicken back to the pot. Stir and reduce heat to low, allowing to simmer for 10 minutes. Garnish with cilantro and serve with rice and naan.
Notes
For extra flavor, let the chicken marinate overnight.
Serve with warm naan for scooping up the sauce.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
