Description
This butterscotch sauce brings a delectable sweetness to any dessert. With its rich flavor from butter and brown sugar, plus a hint of vanilla, it’s an easy homemade delight perfect for drizzling over ice cream, pancakes, or cakes!
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 tablespoons (84g) unsalted butter, sliced
- 1 cup (200g) packed brown sugar
- ½ cup (118ml) heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Once melted, add the brown sugar and heavy whipping cream, stirring until the mixture boils.
- Allow it to boil without stirring for 3 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Transfer the sauce to a jar and let it cool before sealing.
- As it cools, the sauce will thicken. If refrigerated, it will solidify slightly. To reheat, microwave for about 30 seconds, stir, and serve as desired.
Notes
Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
For a richer flavor, consider using vanilla bean paste instead of extract.
Reheat gently to restore pourable consistency.
