Description

This Breakfast Casserole is a crowd-pleaser with its delicious combination of sausage, eggs, and cheese. Perfect for family gatherings or brunch, it can be prepared in advance to save time and stress. Easy to make and packed with flavor, it’s sure to become a favorite.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 10 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 cups cubed bread
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup diced red pepper optional
  • sliced green onion optional

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13x2-inch casserole dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until thoroughly cooked and no longer pink.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and salt until combined.
  4. Distribute half the bread in the prepared casserole dish, followed by half the cheese, half the black pepper, half the red pepper, and half the sausage. Repeat the layers.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or bake immediately.
  7. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 325°F. Bake uncovered for 60-75 minutes, or until the eggs are set. Cover with foil if the top browns too quickly.
  8. If desired, sprinkle with sliced green onions and serve warm.
