Description
This Best Mac and Cheese Sauce boasts a rich flavor and silky texture, perfect for a quick dinner that satisfies cravings. With simple ingredients like cheddar cheese and pasta, it’s a comfort food classic you can easily prepare at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups 2% milk
- 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1–2 tablespoons buffalo hot sauce
- 1 lb. cooked noodles
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour until fully combined, cooking for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
- Gradually add the milk, starting with a few splashes and whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Remove the pot from heat and add the shredded cheddar cheese gradually, whisking until fully melted before adding more cheese.
- Stir in granulated garlic, buffalo hot sauce, and salt. Taste and adjust salt as necessary for flavor.
- Immediately toss the warm cheese sauce with the cooked noodles to ensure even coating before serving.
Notes
For extra creaminess, use full-fat milk instead of 2%.
Feel free to adjust the amount of hot sauce to your taste preference.
Ensure the cheese is freshly shredded for the best melting results.
