Description

These apple turnovers made with puff pastry are bursting with flavor. Easy to prepare, they feature diced apples, cinnamon, and a delightful powdered sugar glaze. Perfect for a sweet treat or dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (2 sheets) Puff Pastry, Thawed
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 3 medium Apples (Peeled, Cored & Diced)
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Flour
  • 1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp Milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Thaw Puff Pastry according to package instructions while preparing the filling.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook, stirring occasionally until they soften.
  3. Lower the heat and incorporate the brown sugar and cinnamon. Simmer for about 3 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Dust a counter with flour and roll the first Puff Pastry sheet into an 11" square. Cut into 4 equal squares. Place the cooled apple mixture on one half of each square, leaving a 1/2" border.
  5. Mix the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush this on the edges of the pastries to help them seal, then bring the edges together and crimp with a fork.
  6. Repeat the process with the second Puff Pastry sheet.
  7. Arrange the turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced at least 1" apart. Cut 2-3 small slits in the top of each for steam release.
  8. Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes, or until they are golden and puffed up.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until the desired consistency is achieved, then drizzle over the turnovers.

Notes

Allow the apple filling to cool before assembling to prevent soggy pastry.
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for richer flavor.
Store any leftover turnovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
